George Rodrigue (1944-2013) focuses on the Cajun culture of his native Louisiana. Best known for his Blue Dog series. When one of his early paintings was displayed in the Salon des Artistes in Paris (1975) the newspaper “Le Figaro” declared Mr. Rodrigue was America’s answer to the French post-impressionist Henri Rousseau. During the Carter Administration, his painting “The Cajuns” was chosen as the official US State Department gift for visiting foreign heads of state.
